Civil Works Coordinator

Job description
As Civil Works Coordinator you will be the person leading all civil works activity on the ground. Third-party utilities, contractors and government entities carry out trench and excavation works across Malta and Gozo every day, often within centimetres of our infrastructure. Your job is to be there, to know exactly where our network runs, and to make sure that nothing gets damaged – particularly during large-scale national projects.
This is a hands-on, site-based role that combines inspection and oversight with a good amount of stakeholder work: you will spend your time between open trenches and meeting rooms with project managers, contractors and government entities.
Responsibilities
Overseeing trench and excavation works carried out by third-party utilities and their contractors, with the primary objective of preventing damage to Melita's underground infrastructure
Attending site before and during works to identify and communicate the location of Melita ducting, chambers and cabling
Checking that trench works, ducting, chamber construction and reinstatement are carried out according to Melita specifications, approved drawings and permit conditions
Making sure contractors use all required PPE and follow Health & Safety policies, procedures and risk assessments on site
Delivering materials to contractors working on site when required, and providing on-site guidance on Melita standards
Updating Road Works Permits (RWP) and providing feedback to other entities through the permit process
Attending meetings with project managers, contractors, government entities, Infrastructure Malta, local councils and other utility operators
Reporting and documenting any damage or non-compliance, and coordinating the response with the relevant Melita teams
Job requirements
Experience in civil works, road works, underground services or construction site supervision – ideally gained with a utility, contractor or public infrastructure entity
The ability to read and interpret site drawings, network plans and permit conditions
A solid working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements on construction and road works sites
Confidence in dealing with contractors, project managers and government entities, and in holding the line when works are not up to standard
Well organised, with good record-keeping and reporting skills (photographic evidence, site reports, permit updates)
Fluency in Maltese and English, both written and spoken
A valid driving licence and willingness to work across Malta and Gozo, with flexibility for occasional works outside normal hours
Previous experience with telecommunications or utility networks will be considered an asset
What we offer
A key role with real ownership – you will be the person Melita relies on to keep its network safe during national infrastructure projects
Training and professional development, including Health & Safety certification
A competitive remuneration package with health insurance and staff benefits on Melita services
A positive, supportive working environment within an established Maltese company
